1. Coronado Golf Course

Coronado Golf Course is a beautiful par-72 course that plays 6,590 yards from the blues. It’s a public municipal course, although you’d never guess from the immaculate fairways and huge, sloping greens. Plus, the gorgeous panoramics of the Coronado Bridge, Hotel del Coronado, and San Diego harbor aren’t too bad of a view.

Greens fees are only $52 to walk, with an additional $24 cart fee (though we recommend walking a course this flat!) Tee times can be made in advance online for an extra $25 booking fee. However, if you really want to save money, you can call in two days ahead, or try to walk on and just hit some range balls while you wait!

This course is extremely busy due to its low prices for the quality and popularity among Coronado residents and Men’s Club members. If you can walk on, this may be your best bet! We even recommend playing the back nine in the afternoon. If you can get on, this is our top pick for bang for your buck!

Carlton Oaks
  1. Carlton Oaks Golf Club

Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee is an unsuspecting pick for bang for your buck, but don’t be surprised! Playing 6,700 from the blues and a maximum of 7,228 from the tips, this par-72 course was designed by Pete Dye’s son. Carlton Oaks themselves notes that, “you’ll use every club in your bag!”

We recommend playing Carlton Oaks in the morning for faster pace of play and cheaper rates. Side note–be in the fairway here–the rough can be brutal. At 7am you can play for just under $55, and this course is great if you prefer to ride, as they DON’T charge extra if you take a cart! Just make sure you’re feeling talkative if you play alone–they’ll pair you with a stranger in your tee time, as they make sure everyone shares carts.

A quick 15-20 minute drive from San Diego State University, this pick is a top bang for your buck for college students in the area golfing on a budget. Overall, we recommend playing in the morning with a friend to get the best value!

  1. Singing Hills Golf Club at Sycuan

Singing Hills is a resort-style golf club nestled in the hills of El Cajon on a Native American reservation. They have three pristine courses: Oak Glen, Willow Glen, and Pine Glen (the 9 hole par-27).

Willow and Oak Glen are both par-72 18 hole courses, playing 6,651 and 6,594 yards from the blues, respectively. With these courses, prices vary based on time of day and season, as it can get very hot and windy in these hills.

This time of year, in Spring, prices are a bit more expensive than the hot summer and fall days. It’s $80 to walk either course in the morning as a non-resident, with a $20 cart fee. Or, if you are a San Diego resident, you can walk for just $65.

Overall, all three of their courses are great, though we recommend Oak Glen if you only have time to play one. This course is great bang for your buck, especially if you can find a Hot Deal on GolfNow!
